As a staff writer, you will be responsible for attending weekly staff meetings, pitching ideas, covering a range of events and topics relevant to the APIDA community at UCLA, in Los Angeles, or in the nation and beyond, and, most importantly, publishing articles on a regular basis.
The forms of writing a Staff Writer may contribute includes, but is not limited to: news reporting, opinion pieces, blog posts, reviews, short story, poetry… Applicants do not need prior news writing experience to apply for this job. There will Student Media training sessions taught by professionals, staff workshops, and office hours available for guidance. However, due to the nature of the position, applicants with organized, persuasive, and succinct writing abilities will be favored.
Please note that MANDATORY writing training for new staff writers will occur on the weekends of Week 3~5, and a required student media law training will also be held on a weekday evening during these weeks. Locations and times TBA.

I understand that if accepted for the Staff Writer position at Pacific Ties, I will have to make time and attend student media trainings in order to write for and publish at the Newsmagazine.
